Frequently Asked Questions
What collagen does TOKA lab use?
We made an easy decision to use marine collagen over the far cheaper, more prevalent bovine collagen on the market. Bovine collagen is extracted from the waste and entrails of beef processing. This involves boiling materials such as cow hides in acid. Most consumers wouldn’t consider cow-hides fit for their dinner plate, yet they are unaware that bovine collagen is exactly that. Our marine collagen is also sourced more ethically and sustainably than bovine, as it is made from discarded byproduct that would often go to waste (fish skin). Lastly, it's far more effective. Marine collagen has a smaller particle size which allows it to be absorbed more efficiently into the body than other types of collagen. Because it enters the bloodstream quicker, your body receives more of its beneficial effects.
How much collagen should I be taking every day?
We recommend consuming eight grams of our marine collagen daily. Our research has indicated that this is sufficient to observe the benefits of collagen. Please note, this amount will be materially higher if consuming inferior forms of collagen, such as bovine, or less hydrolysed marine forms.
Does marine collagen taste fishy?
The marine collagen we use in our elixirs are tasteless and odourless. Other collagen types are known for their gamey taste and unpleasant odour.
Where does TOKA lab's collagen come from?
Our collagen is made from the skin and scales of warm-water fish sourced globally and held to the strictest European quality standards. It is transformed at a facility in Southern France by a company with over a century of experience and technological know-how. This transformation process is known as hydrolysis, and drastically reduces the particle size of the collagen peptides. Our body can not utilise collagen proteins in their natural state due to large particle sizes, and so collagen must be transformed through this process to be effective.
Is there mercury in your marine collagen?
Our collagen is subjected to incredibly stringent testing for heavy metals, including but not limited to mercury and lead. Very trace amounts of mercury are present, however at levels much lower levels than other marine collagen powders on the market, and well within healthy consumption ranges (you would need to consume 30 of our sachets to match the mercury content in a 100g can of tuna). Because we know exactly who, what, where, and how our collagen is sourced, we can provide a guarantee that our collagen undergoes a very strict processing procedure involving sterilisation, pasteurisation, filtration, and powerful magnet exposure to ensure the purest, contaminant-free powder - something that other collagen companies can not provide.
Can I take Superfood Collagen Elixir if I am pregnant, breastfeeding, or under 16?
Our products are completely natural and are highly unlikely to cause any side effects or reactions. Despite this, as a safety measure, consumption is not recommended whilst pregnant without further guidance from your general practitioner. Similarly, breastfeeding whilst on our elixirs are completely safe, and can be highly beneficial in replenishing brittle nails and hair loss experienced during pregnancy, however we still recommend consulting with your doctor before consumption. Our matcha flavoured elixir contains caffeine and may not be suitable for those under 16.
Is powder more effective than pills?
Absolutely. Our powders are more readily absorbed by the body in comparison to pills and digested faster. This results in more beneficial effects, as pills can take a full hour before completely breaking down.
Are your products suitable for men?
Absolutely. Our products are suitable to all, regardless of gender. Everyone experiences the same decline in collagen production in their early 20s. Fine lines, wrinkles, dull skin, and brittle hair aren't conditions unique to women.
How long until I see results?
The benefits of collagen begin to show after two to three three weeks of consistent (daily) usage, and improve the longer it is taken. We recommend consumption for at least three months to observe the full range of intended benefits. The impact of probiotics can be felt within hours of consumption.
Where are your products manufactured?
All of our products are proudly manufactured in Australia.
Are TOKA lab's products made from organic ingredients?
Our superfoods in the Turmeric Latte Collagen Elixir are all fully certified as organic by various independent organisations. The matcha powder used in our Matcha Collagen Elixir is intentionally not organic. Traditional organic produce generally results in denser nutritional value, however matcha prepared organically has a dull flavour and contains far less of the antioxidants responsible for matcha's superfood status. Put simply, if the local Japanese don't drink organic matcha - why would you?
